Recycled CD Mosaic Photo Frame

Surprise!  Today it’s a two-fer.  Two craft tutorials using a similar technique. We all have those CD’s still lying around.  They may be the ones that ISP’s used to send out by the boatload, or maybe some old playlists from our pre-iPod days.  It’s hard to toss them so why not use them for crafting?  And seriously now, old Cd’s are craft supply perfection.  They are free, and they are flashy.

You will need:

An old CD, if your frame width is wide you may need two CDs

Scissors or tin snips (I used an old pair of scissors)

Tacky glue (I used Turbo Tacky glue)

Paper Mache frame available at craft stores or online, but any flat front frame will work just as well

Black slick dimensional fabric paint

Tweezers

Scrap piece of thin cardboard, a piece of cereal box works well

(It’s a good idea to wear eye protection while cutting the CD in case any of the pieces fly up)

1.     Cut the CD up into pieces.  Vary the sizes and the shapes. Working in small sections squeeze some glue on the front of the frame and spread it out with a scrap piece of thin cardboard.  Use the tweezers to pick up the CD pieces one at a time and place in the glue.  Keep applying CD pieces in this way making sure you leave some space between each piece. Continue working all around until the entire face of the frame is covered with the CD pieces.  Let dry.

Interior Design Tips For The Kitchen

When it comes to your kitchen, there are many different interior design tips for you to use to make the kitchen of your dreams. Some of these tips may be familiar to you, some may not be. Here is the first tip when it comes to the kitchen area. Colors can make a big difference in how your kitchen will look. Using bright colors or light colors can really make your kitchen stand out. If you have a smaller kitchen then lighter colors are definitely recommended so that the kitchen will look larger than what it is.

Arranging the workspace in the kitchen is also a big concern. One of the best interior design tips for the kitchen is to have the sink refrigerator and stove form a triangle of no more than 26 feet in distance. This helps with food preparations and doesn’t make it hard to go from one to the other. Color again is something that you need to think about when it comes to the counters of the kitchen in question. The problem with darker shades is that soap residue can show. It is much better to have lighter colored countertops than darker ones.

Having adequate lighting is also one of the things that you should be thinking about. This is one of the best interior design tips for a kitchen that I can think of. Not having enough lighting can really cause your kitchen to look dark and gloomy. This is why it is a good idea to have not only a main lighting fixture but also task lights that can go anywhere. One other lighting tip could also be recessed lights. These can add light while at the same time be out of the way. Having enough light really brightens up a kitchen.

Interior decorating tips for a kitchen also include getting cutlery, dishes, bowls, trivets and placemats that match the design or theme of your kitchen. This can create a more put together look for you and makes a difference. On the same token, at holiday time, make sure that you use holiday themed slipcovers, table covers, window curtains and other themed ideas to make your kitchen fit the holiday season. This can make a kitchen a very happy place to be. It joins in the festive mood and leaves visitors with the holiday spirit.

Something else to remember when you are talking about interior design tips for kitchens is to use indoor plants in your kitchen. This not only brings freshness to the kitchen but also cleans the air. This is a two way benefit to your kitchen. Plants always look good in kitchen especially small ones. These are just some of the ideas that you can use when it comes to designing your kitchen. They can make the difference between having a great looking and functioning kitchen and one that is blah, boring and dark to be honest. Make your kitchen great using any or all of these tips that have been presented.
