OVAL rug
GOLD-METAL Tabriz Oriental Carpets
Notes: This Tabriz rug features a foundation made of cotton and a gold colored metal. As a result, only 50% of the rug has a pile with the idea being that the kurkwool will be surrounded by the metal foundation. By leaving the foundation exposed in many areas, the rug appears to have several layers and it's very valuable. These Tabriz rugs are truly collector pieces and are to be treated as such. The quality is very high and they are perfectly fine to walk on, but ideal you would place them in a room like a formal living room or a wall. In addition, there are large areas of the pile completely made of silk. If you look at the last picture, you can see how the metal in added and all the bright colors are the silk highlights (lots of them). These round rugs are extremely rare and I'm fortunate to know the family connections to get these type of rugs. They are very popular with my clients.

Notes: This is a genuine 60 raj Jafari rug made with silk foundation and is extremely luxurious. The design in this Tabriz rug is called "Gombardeh" and it is the most popular pattern in my round rugs. It seems like the design was made specifically for round rugs, but it is actually more common in rectangular pieces. Both, the workmanship and quality, are absolutely gorgeous and I am very fortunate to have the direct contacts so that I can continue to purchase them. I typically sell them within a few short months and it's hard at times to keep up with demand.
One additional feature in this rug is the edge, which features some very detailed workmanship. We were able to get this rug before it was completed and we asked the weaver to try to avoid adding a kelim and instead add a fancy border. The result is definitely rare and it took a lot longer than planned, but well worth it.
About the Jafari family:
The Jafari family has been in the rug business for many years now and my father started buying rugs from them since the early 70's. For the last 20 years, they have specialized and truly perfected the dome shape pattern "Gonbad" design and are considered among the best weavers in Tabriz. It is thanks to our long business relationship that I am able to purchase so many of them and if you look around my site, you will most likely stumble across several other of their rugs. Besides the various designs patterns, the Jafari rugs are also very highly regarded for the attention to detail and choice of top quality wools and silks.
